Runner-up

ACE the exam Large volume of questions but limited package

Not a dedicated resource for the FRACP examination and developed first for surgical exams. Despite this has a lot of questions. Only let down by the lack of comprehensive explanations and no dedicated mock examinations. However Is a good additional resource for the price point.

The Best Question Bank for RACP exam

  1. PassFRACP.com – The best resource for most RACP trainees
  2. ACEtheexam – Large amount of questions but limited package
  3. FRACPractice – Less expensive, but still great
  4. TopPhysician – Textbook layout with 2 mock examinations
  5. BasicPhysicianTrainee.com – Easiest to use

#1 PassFRACP.com – The best resource for most RACP trainees

Focusing solely on how to pass the RACP examination this offering has won our award this year. Its dedication to an updated resource alongside unique features makes this a unique offering for FRACP exam revision. If you can afford only one this is our pick!

The focus is on best of five answers for the MCQ gives an additional challenge to prepare you for the exam day. Each question has a breakdown of all options in the answer stem. Our panel felt that the questions closely mirrored common RACP exam themes and curriculum.

Each question is tagged to high yield topics and there is a spaced repetition mode (Mastery Mode) which we have enjoyed over the longer revision months.

By far the greatest tool is the mock examinations which is recommended closer to the exam date to practice your question timing and simulation of exam day.

If you are not sure – they offer free blogs and sample questions on their social media to add to your revision resources.

Pros

  • Excellent quality stems – challenging with multimedia
  • Detailed explanation with up to date references
  • High yield tagging system with spaced learning algorithms
  • Dedicated mock examinations which are fully customisable

Cons

  • No dedicated iOs / Android App Store
  • Moderate price range

#2 ACEtheexam

They are a New Zealand based company focusing on ACEM, GSSE, AMC and RACP examinations.

Like similar packages on the market – you can create mock examinations from the question bank database. However there is no dedicated option and there is the risk of already answering the question previously.

There is a notebook feature which is novel but not very useful in practice.

Pros

  • Adequate volume of questions
  • Fast loading times on devices tested
  • Experienced team with multi-exam options outside of the FRACP

Cons

  • Often single line question stems
  • Answers often simplified without full breakdown of answer options
  • Not a dedicated resource for the FRACP examination alone

#3 FRACPractice – Less detailed, but an longstanding offering

Probably the most cost effective option of the packages reviewed.

Written by a senior medical officer based in New Zealand – this is an established and used by many past trainees.

Unfortunately this has been let down by lack of updates to the package experience and the questions at time feel outdated compared to the others mentioned.

Pros

  • Well established package
  • Good for older exam themes in particular

Cons

  • Some questions are outdated with current guidelines
  • User interface can be quite frustrating to navigate

#4 TopPhysician – Great visual guided revision

TopPhysician is an Australian based resource and is a robust package offering.

We enjoy the module based approach which feels like a ‘textbook’. However it has less interactive options for its question bank due to this.

We enjoyed the mock examination offering as it was unique from the question bank but found that during each sitting only two were available from a possible four.

To note compared to the above offerings it is by far the most expensive options on the market.

However we do not doubt the user experience and time taken to develop this package that it is a viable option for those with reimbursement options.

Pros

  • Module lessons feature
  • Question bank with subject breakdown
  • Up to 4 seperate mock examinations

Cons

  • Most expensive package on the market
  • Low number of mock examinations per year (4 per year – 2 per sitting)

#5 Basicphysiciantraining.com – Free to use

This is an offering from a trainee who has now progressed to a senior medical officer. There is a short selection of multiple choice questions filtered by subject type.

The questions are adequately written but focus heavily on specific trials. There is no developed tool and answers are on the same page just below the question.

Pros

  • Completely free resource
  • Question quality is high
  • Has clinical exam resources in addition (also free)
  • Good mix of specialities featured

Cons

  • No question bank features
  • No mock examination
  • Questions have not been updated since its first upload

How do we undertake these rankings?

We used a standardised a format to review each website per year.

Quality of question stem

These are essential for effective revision. These must be challenging but be clear on its logical sequence. Emphasis on these being in a similar manner to the RACP exam. Use of a multimedia approach is favoured.

Detailed answers based on Australian / New Zealand evidence

Answers must include a thorough explanation of both the correct answer and the other options listed.

Mock examination tool

Proin at sapien arcu. Nam a sapien pharetra, dapibus tellus et, rutrum sem. Morbi luctus ex in nulla tincidunt, nec tempus mi fermentum. Curabitur vitae velit sit amet turpis vulputate dictum.

Resource updates

The frequency of updates to the tool is considered to make sure that candidates are not answering out of date questions based on historical evidence and guidelines.

Ease of use of the online tool used

We factor the speed and usability of each online tool. We favour specific packages that use higher level education functions to improve revision and create an experience for the trainee.

Conclusion

Overall these reviews are subjective based on RACP trainee and senior medical officer feedback. They do not represent the college views.
