Top Physician Four solid mock examinations on offer

Whilst not providing the most amount of mock examinations it does offer a solid package. The major drawback is the high yearly price for BPT trainees to access all four of the examinations.

The Best Question Bank for RACP exam

  1. PassFRACP.com – Largest set of examinations with a complete package
  2. TopPhysician – Excellent questions but costly for 4 examination in total
  3. University of Otago Course – Good practice but questions can be unrealistic
  4. Official RACP resources – Most realistic source but limited to one exam
  5. FRACPractice – Re-uses the question bank for its mock

#1 PassFRACP.com – The most substantial offering

With the greatest number of mock examinations and analysis features this offering has won our award this year.

It has a unique exam simulation mode which mirrors the structure of the FRACP examination. However the team has limited the length of the examination to two hours compared to the day for practice time purposes.

In summary each examination is 77 questions long with a time limit of two hours to complete. This is calculated from the ratio from the official examination.

Both multiple choice questions (MCQ) and extended matching questions (EMQ) are included in the same proportions as the real examination.

Whilst there is a time limit the team has set a ‘soft timer’ allowing you to extended beyond this but altering you to when

However by far the most useful aspect is the analysis after the examination. You can review each question one-by-one but also have breakdown statistics based on type, subject, speciality and difficulty given to you. This gives you insights on how to focus your revision moving forward.

Pros

  • Excellent quality stems – challenging with multimedia
  • Detailed explanation with up to date references
  • High yield tagging system with spaced learning algorithms
  • Dedicated mock examinations which are fully customisable

Cons

  • Moderate price range

#2 TopPhysician – Limited to four per year

This is an established offering in the market with adequate feedback from the BPT community.

There are four formal online practice exams per year (September, October and January, February). To have access to all four examinations you need to purchase the full annual subscription at a whopping $2,160 including GST ($1,800 excluding GST).

Benefits include that the questions are written separate from the main question bank. However there is Limited metrics on completion of the examination – only includes medical speciality and cohort analysis on last review. Compared to other offerings on the market. Whilst updated it is unclear how much the examinations are rotated or changed on a year to year basis.

Pros

  • Questions are similar to exam themes
  • Decent amount of timed questions per exam
  • Good loading times on devices tested

Cons

  • Very costly to access all papers with the annual subscription.
  • Limited analysis metrics
  • Limited to four examinations

#3 University of Otago Course – Good but questions could be improved.

Whilst technically an attended course there is an online option to just access the course materials from home. They release one new examination per year – totalling 5 overall.

All candidates have access to the 2025 mock examination, as well as the 2024, 2023, 2022, and 2021 mock examinations.

Pros

  • Well established package
  • Good for older exam themes in particular

Cons

  • Expensive package
  • Some questions are outdated with current guidelines
  • User interface can be quite frustrating to navigate

#4 Official RACP resources

The Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) provides a free practice examination for candidates preparing for the FRACP Divisional Written Examination (DWE). This resource is often the first formal exposure candidates get to the style and structure of the actual exam.

In short think of it as a diagnostic tool, not a comprehensive resource. Use it to get a taste of the real exam — but lean on modern question banks, recent guideline reviews, and mock exams to round out your preparation.

Pros

  • Free resource
  • Most realistic to exam day

Cons

  • Paper version alone until near exam
  • One examination alone
  • Outdated in parts to current guidelines/evidence
  • No detailed explanations

#5 FRACPractice – Re-uses the question bank for its mock

Despite being a longstanding resource – FRACPractice doesn’t really deliver for its mock examination offering.

The questions are only recycled from the main question bank and hence its likely that you have come across them during standard revision.

Its tool overall for delivery has basic functionality but no real standout features.

Pros

  • Completely free resource
  • Question quality is high
  • Has clinical exam resources in addition (also free)
  • Good mix of specialities featured

Cons

  • No question bank features
  • No mock examination
  • Questions have not been updated since its first upload

How do we undertake these rankings?

We used a standardised a format to review each website per year.

Quality of question stem

These are essential for effective revision. These must be challenging but be clear on its logical sequence. Emphasis on these being in a similar manner to the RACP exam. Use of a multimedia approach is favoured.

Detailed answers based on Australian / New Zealand evidence

Answers must include a thorough explanation of both the correct answer and the other options listed.

Analysis options

Proin at sapien arcu. Nam a sapien pharetra, dapibus tellus et, rutrum sem. Morbi luctus ex in nulla tincidunt, nec tempus mi fermentum. Curabitur vitae velit sit amet turpis vulputate dictum.

Resource updates

The frequency of updates to the tool is considered to make sure that candidates are not answering out of date questions based on historical evidence and guidelines.

Ease of use of the online tool used

We factor the speed and usability of each online tool. We favour specific packages that use higher level education functions to improve revision and create an experience for the trainee.

Conclusion

Overall these reviews are subjective based on RACP trainee and senior medical officer feedback. They do not represent the college views.
